Abstract

This study examines the prophetic narrative of David as reflected in the three Abrahamic scriptures: the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Qur’an, using Angelika Neuwirth’s intertextual approach. In the Old Testament, David’s prophetic status is not explicitly mentioned, whereas in the New Testament and the Qur’an, he is directly referred to as a prophet. This research aims to answer two main questions: first, how is the prophetic narrative of David constructed in the Bible and the Qur’an; second, how do intertextual relationships between these three scriptures shape the portrayal of David. Employing a literature review method, this study analyzes scriptural verses and relevant academic literature. The findings indicate that the Qur’an does not merely replicate earlier narratives but actively reconfigures and reinterprets the story of David in accordance with its own social and theological context. Consequently, the prophetic representation of David becomes a space of dialogue among the sacred texts, reflecting the dynamic nature of revelation within monotheistic traditions. This research enriches the discourse on intertextual exegesis while also affirming the Qur’an’s position as part of the narrative continuity of preceding scriptures.
