Abstract

The article examines the process of restoring the temple-liturgical canon in "Boris Godunov", which is fully inherent in ancient Russian literature. Its assimilation by Pushkin takes place through Karamzin's "History..." and ancient Russian genres (sermon, chronicles, hagiography, hymnography, liturgics). The tragedy embodies such phenomena of the Orthodox worldview as: miracle, foolishness, Providence of God, holiness. Temple topos-sacronyms occupy a central place in the tragedy, symbolizing national and religious archetypes. All the ideal images of the tragedy are symbolic: the Patriarch, the monk-chronicler Pimen, the fool Nikolka. They have feelings of humility and repentance, they do not separate themselves from the common guilt and crimes of the tsar. Pushkin actualizes in the tragedy the relationship between the poet and the sovereign and their shadow images: the false poet and the false tsar. The resurrected Tsarevich Dimitri becomes the true ruler of Russia after the crime of Tsar Boris. Pushkin contrasts in the tragedy the people who were seduced by the people of God. The retreat of the people and the ruler from God's truth is manifested through the motifs of the automatism of the will and behavior of the people, the doom of the "children". The images of Tsar Boris and False Dmitry in Pushkin's tragedy are similar: both abandon the spiritual path and are driven by vanity and self-will. Grigory Otrepyev changes his true purpose to be a chronicler monk, as a result of which his plot falls out of the chronicle tradition and develops according to the scheme of a Western European adventurous novel. The sacred temple space and the Orthodox existential properties associated with it symbolize the image of Holy Russia, resisting the historical catastrophe of the Time of Troubles.
