Abstract
The shift towards a recipient-oriented paradigm in translation, driven by the “marketing company era” and societal fragmentation, has not yet fully realized in practice. While abstract notions of quality have improved, translation services often fail to deliver for specific recipients, remaining stuck in outdated “production” or “sales” mentalities. This study addresses the central contradiction between the nuanced needs of the translation recipient and the lack of a comprehensive theoretical framework to meet them. Its purpose is to construct a recipient-oriented translation model by synthesizing a wide inventory of existing concepts from both within and outside translation studies. The methodological approach involves a systematic analysis and synthesis of these diverse theories. The primary result is the development of a coherent recipient-oriented model that places the recipient’s perception of the target text at its core. This model serves as a powerful tool for fostering a deeper, more personalized interaction between the translator and the recipient, thereby expanding the theoretical foundations of interlanguage communication. It demonstrates that “translation quality for a recipient” can be significantly enhanced through the strategic integration of translation and non-translation theories. As traditional grammatical hierarchies are insufficient to model the complex relationship between the translator, the recipient, and the text, the continued exploration of recipient-oriented concepts presents a vital and promising direction for future research and innovation in the field.
