Systematic Literature Review: The Role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Management Information Systems (MIS) for Digital Business Transformation

<jats:p>Due to the digital transformation of businesses, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been integrated into Management Information Systems (MIS) to improve efficiency and quality of decision-making. Through a systematic literature review, the purpose of this work is to analyze the role of IoT in MIS as a driver of digital business transformation. Following the PRISMA protocol, this review analyzes 20 peer-reviewed articles published over five years (2020 to 2025) and retrieved through Google Scholar. The results of the review suggest that the IoT has improved business processes in terms of visibility and the automation of operations, and the effective utilization of data has enhanced the overall quality of managerial decision-making. In addition to operational efficiencies, IoT-enabled MIS enhances business model and organizational flexibility, strategic competitiveness, and sociosystem agility. The literature also points to system interoperability, data security concerns, organizational, and managerial preparedness as the most persistent areas of challenge. The overall conclusion of the work is that the organized deployment of IoT into MIS frameworks is a function of the flexibility of the technology and the preparedness of the economy to drive a sustainable digital business transformation.
