Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of body morphometric parameters and milk productivity of Saanen goats. The study object was two groups of goats in the dynamics of the 1st and 2nd lactations, differing in the age at first kidding. Group 1 included animals that were bred the year after birth (n = 22), group 2 — goats that were bred in the year of their birth (n = 35). In the 1st lactation, the chest depth and girth, the width and length of the head, and the muzzle girth were larger in animals of group 1 compared to group 2 (p < 0.05–0.01). In the 2nd lactation, these parameters were similar. Fat (kg) and Protein (kg) did not differ between animals of groups 1 and 2. Milk productivity in both groups exceeded the minimum requirements for the breed, but milk yield for the 1st and 2nd lactations was higher in group 1 (p < 0.05–0.01). It was found that the greatest number of correlations between milk productivity and body parameters occurred in the 1st lactation, primarily in the group of goats with an early age at first kidding. The only parameter that showed a statistically significant positive relationship with milk yield at different stages of lactation in both groups was head length (p < 0.05–0.01). Only in animals with a late age at first kidding (group 1) was a multidirectional correlation established between their age and milk yield over 305 days of the 1st lactation (r = –0.53 at p < 0.05). Based on the study results, we propose that the determination of body morphometric parameters and analysis of milk productivity in the 1st lactation goats be differentiated based on the age at first kidding.
