Abstract

The article substantiates the theoretical and methodological foundations of the digital-circular development model for trade enterprises in the context of digital transformation, sustainable development, and the transition to a circular economy. It demonstrates that integrating digital technologies with circular business models creates new opportunities for improving resource efficiency, optimizing business processes, and enhancing the competitiveness of trade enterprises. The concept of the digital-circular development model of a trade enterprise is defined as an integrated organizational and economic management model that combines circular economy principles, digital technologies, and modern trade business processes to ensure closed-loop resource use, digital traceability of product life cycles, sustainable value creation, and long-term economic, environmental, and social performance. The main scientific contribution is the development of an original organizational and economic mechanism for forming the digital-circular development model of trade enterprises. The mechanism integrates external environmental factors, a digital enterprise management platform, digital-circular business processes, economic performance outcomes, and a system for assessing digital-circular maturity. The digital platform combines AI, Big Data, ERP, CRM, WMS, OMS, RFID, IoT, blockchain, digital twins, cloud technologies, and digital product passports to support integrated management of procurement, assortment planning, inventory management, omnichannel sales, reverse logistics, product returns, refurbishment, resale, recycling, and resource recovery. Unlike existing approaches, digital technologies serve as the core integrating platform that synchronizes material, information, and financial flows throughout the product life cycle. The article also proposes a methodological approach to assessing the digital-circular maturity of trade enterprises using an integrated maturity index based on six dimensions: resource efficiency, digital maturity, logistics efficiency, circular business processes, digital customer interaction, and ESG maturity. The methodology considers the specific characteristics of trade enterprises, including omnichannel operations, inventory management, customer-oriented digital services, and reverse logistics, providing a comprehensive assessment of enterprise readiness for digital-circular transformation. The practical significance of the research lies in applying the proposed model, organizational mechanism, and assessment methodology to improve business process integration, implement circular practices, optimize inventory and supply chains, strengthen customer interaction, increase resource efficiency, and enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of trade enterprises. The findings expand the theoretical foundations of digital-circular transformation and support the implementation of Retail 5.0 principles and sustainable digital development.
