Abstract

The article examines funding models of nonprofit organizations and directions for their improvement under conditions of increasing social challenges and resource constraints. It is substantiated that the key criterion for evaluating and selecting funding models of nonprofit organizations is their ability to ensure financial sustainability and the efficient use of resources, which is largely determined by the level of diversification of funding sources. The study generalizes approaches to the formation of financial models of nonprofit organizations and identifies the main factors influencing their functioning. The necessity of ensuring a balanced approach to the formation of financial resources is emphasized, as well as the importance of coherence between different types of financial inflows in achieving organizational goals. Existing funding models of nonprofit organizations are systematized, with their advantages and limitations identified. The analysis substantiates the applicability of a mixed (balanced) funding model based on diversification of financial resources and the integration of different financing mechanisms. The proposed mixed model combines grant and project-based funding, income from social entrepreneurship, private contributions, and partnership-based resources from business and other institutions. Each component performs a specific functional role within the financial structure: grants ensure program implementation, social entrepreneurship supports financial autonomy, private contributions provide flexibility, and partnerships enhance stability and scaling potential. A key feature of the model is an internal balancing mechanism of financial flows, which allocates resources between program activities, administrative costs, and the formation of reserve funds. This approach ensures both current operational efficiency and long-term financial sustainability of nonprofit organizations. It is concluded that the choice of a funding model should be considered as a result of evaluating its effectiveness, understood as the ability to ensure financial stability, diversification of the resource base, and the long-term capacity of the organization to fulfill its mission.
