An «ideal patient» for uterine artery embolization

<jats:p>Uterine artery embolization (UAE) has established itself as a highly effective organ-preserving treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroids. The clinical effectiveness of the procedure is crucially dependent on the accuracy of preoperative patient selection. Based on an analysis of Russian clinical guidelines, Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) standards, and evidence-based medicine data, this review provides a comprehensive overview of the multifactorial profile of an “ideal patient” for UAE. The authors formulate key and modifying selection criteria, develop a practical algorithm for clinicians, and analyze controversial clinical situations requiring a balanced individual approach.</jats:p>
