Abstract
The article is devoted to substantiating the scientific, methodological, and practical aspects of environmental management of business entities in the agricultural sector. It is determined that, under current conditions, environmental management is becoming a key instrument for adapting agribusiness to environmental regulations and standards and for creating sustainable long-term competitive advantages. A brief systematization of the essential characteristics of environmental management is provided. The role of environmental management in reducing the risks associated with climate change is identified. Among the key functions of environmental management in agricultural enterprises are: ensuring the diversification of biological assets; promoting cost optimization; ensuring compliance with environmental standards and access to premium markets; capitalizing on agribusiness brands; and facilitating inclusive access of agricultural producers to green financing. It is demonstrated that environmental management ensures the implementation of environmental imperatives in the development strategies of agricultural business entities. A two-level architectural model of environmental management is proposed, integrating the interests of agricultural enterprises, the state, and society over the long term. The authors’ interpretation of environmental management is presented as a “dynamic two-level management system that integrates strategic environmental priorities into financial and economic activities.” The interrelationship between the environmental management instruments of agricultural enterprises, the expected outcomes in terms of minimizing the consequences of climate change, and the process of developing sustainable competitive advantages for agribusiness is substantiated. The key instruments identified include agrotechnological and digital tools, production decarbonization instruments, as well as market positioning and investment attractiveness instruments. The views of Ukrainian agribusiness owners regarding the main constraints and risks associated with implementing environmental imperatives in management practices are examined.
