Method as a System. Clemens Timpler and His Program for the Reform of Philosophy

<jats:p>This article reconstructs Timpler's concept of the method as the organizing principle of his philosophical project. In contrast to interpretations that view him primarily as a Ramist, Aristotelian, or eclectic, it is argued that his doctrine of method represents an original synthesis based on objective laws of order and rational relations rather than on the natural order of things. The article shows how Templer's concept of method unites logic, metaphysics, and other sciences in a single program for the reform of philosophy based on a fundamentally new view of science, scientific, and social progress, and suggests that it represents an important stage in the emergence of a methodical tradition in German philosophy.</jats:p>
