Abstract

The study of the structure of medicinal plant raw materials is part of pharmacognostic analysis. In our work, we conducted anatomical and morphological studies of the promising plant Hedysarum gmelinii, whose herb and roots have potential for use in human and veterinary medicine. The raw materials were collected during the flowering phase, soaked, and the structure of individual organs was described at the macro- and microscopic levels. Diagnostic characteristics of the raw materials were identified. Based on external characteristics, the following distinctive features can be identified: shape, stem color, type of leaf pubescence, inflorescence shape, and flower color. At the microscopic level, the following diagnostic characteristics were established: the structure of the stem’s vascular elements, fine ribbing of the stem, the isolatereal type of the leaf, the type and arrangement of the stomata, and the shape and arrangement of the root’s secondary xylem elements. The results obtained can be used to verify the authenticity of plant raw materials and to prepare draft regulatory documentation for raw materials of this species.
