Abstract
Increasing awareness of the multidimensional harm caused by the anthropocentric world order leads us to seek alternative ways of existing in it. In fact, the world is a dense network of interspecies relationships involving agentic non-human beings. The search for new solu¬tions and attempts to recognise the co-existence of human and non-human animals take place in both scientific and cultural institutions. The article examines ways of representing interspecies communities in museum spaces. To this end, it conducts a zoocentric analysis of the temporary exhibition Miasto zwierząt [City of Animals] at the Museum of Hunting and Horsemanship in Warsaw (2024–2025), situating it in the context of other actions and exhibitions dedicated to animals in the city (especially the exhibition under the same name, City of Animals, at the Museum of Krakow, 2025). The analysis reveals the inconsistencies in the narrative of the Warsaw exhibition, and emphasizes that other modes of representa¬tion—used in the evoked initiatives—allow for perceiving non-human animals as partici¬pants within urban communities, thus demonstrating the possibility of changing museum language and practices.
