Abstract

The author discusses the impact the implementation of the principles of circular economy may have on the development of modern cities – from the development of public policies to the practice of urban planning and design. The analyses presented in the publication cover the strategies adopted by the United Nations, European Union and Poland. The key element of the book are two detailed case studies: the experimental district Buiksloterham in Amsterdam and the “Akcja Burza” Park in Warsaw, based on the idea of upcycling and working with the memory of the place. On the basis of the results of these studies, Agnieszka Chmura formulates her own circular cluster model – a tool enabling coordinated cooperation between local authorities, business and local communities. The publication, awarded the Stena Circular Economy Award – Circular Economy Leader 2022, is a proposal for a practical path for the circular development of contemporary cities.
