Abstract

This study investigated the adoption and impact of information technology (IT) on Human Resource Management (HRM) practices in the construction industry in Edo State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed, targeting 500 HR professionals, with a stratified random sample of 222 respondents. Structured questionnaires validated for content and reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.97) were used to collect data on demographics, IT usage in HR functions, and perceived IT impact. Out of 222 questionnaires, 196 were returned (88.3%). Findings revealed that IT is widely integrated into core HR functions, with payroll management (86.7%), employee records (81.6%), and attendance tracking (79.1%) most supported, and 81.6% of respondents using technology frequently. Regression analyses showed that IT adoption significantly predicts the frequency of HR technology use (R² = 0.425) and improves HRM effectiveness and efficiency (R² = 0.659). Payroll management, performance appraisal, and employee records were the strongest contributors. Despite high adoption, resistance to new technologies persists, indicating a need for training and change management.
