Abstract

During doctoral candidature, students may seek to publish journal articles, which they may incorporate in their thesis if their institutional policy permits. They may consider sharing pre-prints of these texts either pre- or post-publication to promote open access and knowledge mobilisation. There is very little extant research that explores doctoral students’ knowledge of the risks and possibilities involved in sharing their work in this form, and this chapter seeks to identify those that they could encounter. It offers immediate value for informing doctoral education and a useful foundation for future research that is specific to the doctoral student experience.
