Abstract

<jats:p>The Dynamic Cascade Reactor (DCR) is a conceptual micro-fusion system employing a modular architecture of segmented plasma chambers with phased magnetic compression and synchronization, intended to mitigate large-scale plasma instabilities. By dividing the plasma volume into smaller, orchestrated units, the DCR aims to reduce the amplitude and effect of tearing modes, edge-localized modes (ELMs), and other magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) disruptions common in current fusion reactor designs. The concept draws on resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) control and deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for instability suppression, both validated in experiments at facilities including DIII-D and TCV (see References). This document addresses confinement, wall erosion, and control latency challenges, but does not yet resolve — and explicitly flags — whether the segmentation strategy itself helps or hurts the reactor's net energy balance. That question is the central open problem in this draft.</jats:p>
