Abstract

The purpose of this article is to highlight the processes involved in organising and conducting oral history research, as well as in obtaining and disseminating the results of such research within the academic community, as carried out at the O.M. Lazarevsky еducational and scientific institute of history and sociо-humanitarian disciplines of the T.H. Shevchenko national university «Chernihiv Colehium». Scientific novelty. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the oral history research carried out by lecturers and students at the Institute of History in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. This publication continues to introduce into academic circulation factual material devoted to the everyday life of the population of the Chernihiv region during the full-scale Russian invasion of 24 February 2022. The material presented can be used for writing the history of the Chernihiv region during the period of independence, the events of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and studies in historical regional studies, which will ultimately contribute to the preservation of historical memory. The methodological framework of the study is based on a combination of general scientific and specific historical principles and methods, with the practical application of the tools and techniques of oral history playing a leading role. Conclusions. This article describes the organisation and main areas of oral history research at the Institute of History in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. It has been established that the processes of Ukraine’s national revival and independence, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian war, had the greatest influence on the development of this research. Consequently, these circumstances influenced the choice of research topics, forms and methods. Oral history research intensified during the war. This led to large-scale oral history research being conducted in local communities across Chernihiv Oblast, the results of which were presented at numerous academic conferences and published in scholarly journals.
