Correspondence between local historian of Sumy region G. T. Petrov and V. V. Terletsky with poltava literature scholar P. P. Rotach

<jats:p>The purpose of this publication is to introduce into scientific circulation the correspondence between representatives of literary and artistic local history of the Sumy region, G. T. Petrov and V. V. Terletsky, stored in the 276 «Petr Petrovich Rotach» collection at the Institute of Manuscripts of the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. The methodological basis of the work consists of general scientific (analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction, systematic approach) and special-historical (historical-genetic, historical-comparative) methods and principles of historicism, subjectivism, optimization of the volume of information. The novelty of the work. Little-known to the general public, 14 letters from Sumy local historian G. T. Petrov and 4 letters from Shetkino local historian V. V. Terletsky to Poltava literary scholar and Shevchenko expert P. P. Rotach from the 1960s and 1970s are being introduced into scientific circulation. The correspondence between the researchers has been partially preserved, but it offers significant informational potential. The published sources reveal that the epistolary correspondence between G. T. Petrov and V. V. Terletsky focused on scientific research and local history education. The correspondence also expands the idea of the circle of communication of G.T. Petrov, who maintained relations with the granddaughter of the Ukrainian poet P. A. Grabovsky, Svitlana Borysivna, the Sumy poet M. M Danko (1926 – 1993), the artist, director of the Poltava Art Museum P. M. Gorobets (1905 – 1974), the literary critic, writer D. M. Kosaryk (1904 – 1992), and the Sumy local historian P. A. Sapukhin (1893 – 1970). Conclusions: The article is the first to publish the correspondence between G. T. Petrov and V. V. Terletsky to P. P. Rotach, which provides important information about the Ukrainian local history movement of the 1960s and 1970s in the Sumy region.
