Chronotope and pragmatics of persuasive speech tactics in an English-language popular science online forum: based on a post on the Phys.org platform

<jats:p>This article examines the chronotopic characteristics of persuasive tactics in the dynamic space of an English-language scientific online forum. The aim of the research is to establish the pragmatic features of the chronotope of persuasive tactics related to the formation of the cognitive basis of communication, and persuasive tactics aimed at reactive communication. The scientific novelty of the study lies in describing the academic and operational types of chronotope and systematizing persuasive speech tactics from the perspective of their correlation with the local-temporal characteristics of the research material. As a result of the study, the persuasive tactics of the author of the initial post (explanation, alignment of background knowledge, demonstration of peripheral and referential types of knowledge, actualization, increasing the level of trust in the author, demonstration of contrast with cause-and-effect relationships, evaluation) and the persuasive tactics of the authors of comments on this post (comparison, demonstration of referential knowledge, demonstration of peripheral knowledge, explanation and appeal to authoritative sources, criticism) were identified. In the course of the analysis, a scheme correlating persuasive tactics and their temporal properties in the structure of the chronotope of scientific discourse was developed.</jats:p>
