Intertextual lacuna as a problem of transmitting the author's meaning based on V. Pelevin's novel "The Life of Insects" and its German translation

<jats:p>The article examines the problems of transmitting intertextuality in literary translation from the perspective of the lacunarity of a literary text. Lacunae are considered in this context not only as units of non-equivalent vocabulary reflecting the linguo-cultural specifics of native speakers, but also in a broader sense as a complex problem of asymmetry of linguistic signs and cultures, associated, among other things, with the author's personality, idiostyle, and aesthetic concept. A special class of lacunae is highlighted – intertextual lacunae, understood as semantic gaps that arise in a literary text as a result of intertextual interaction. The aim of the research is to substantiate the concept of "intertextual lacuna" as a factor influencing literary translation. The scientific novelty of the research lies in identifying and describing the impact of a lacuna on the possibility and mechanisms of transmitting intertextual meaning in translation; in particular, it was established that, depending on the degree of explicitness of the intertextual inclusion, intertextual lacunae can be divided into two types – conceptual and precedent. The results obtained showed that the identification of these types of intertextual lacunae proves to be relevant from the point of view of the observed mechanisms of their elimination.</jats:p>
