Abstract

The research aims to develop a functional-semantic model of evidentiality in ecological media discourse, establishing the correlation between methods of information source explication and the text’s pragmatic potential. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the initial extrapolation of the theory of evidentiality to Russian-language environmental discourse and the systematic classification of markers of “attestedness” within the context of the climate agenda. The article substantiates the dependence of the chosen evidential strategy on the genre and stylistic parameters of the publication. The study employs methods of discourse analysis, functional-semantic description, and contextual analysis. The empirical database consists of scientific articles and expert reports with an environmental focus. As a result of the study, a classification of evidential markers reflecting the genre and stylistic specifics of the publications has been developed. A stable correlation between the type of information source and the message’s mode of credibility was identified. The study established the dominance of reportative evidentiality, demonstrating the topic’s high degree of institutionalization and its reliance on expert knowledge. It is proven that the choice of an evidential strategy directly determines the pragmatic effect of the text.
