Abstract
<jats:p>The article investigates borrowings as a mechanism for forming the English-language terminology system of perfume-themed blogs. The study aims to provide a comprehensive etymological, structural-semantic, and functional characterization of foreign loanwords in English-language perfume blogs. The scientific novelty lies in the first-ever classification of the corpus of borrowings within this discourse by source language, type of entry, and degree of assimilation. Furthermore, the functional role of foreign vocabulary is identified as a significant source for replenishing the professional sublanguage of perfumery. The results demonstrate that Latin and French are the primary donor languages for the English perfume blogosphere, with borrowings entering the discourse through both direct and indirect pathways. A distinctive feature of borrowings in the studied discourse is their low degree of assimilation; in many cases, original graphic and phonetic features are preserved due to their terminological status and the pursuit of precision in naming. At the same time, processes of semantic transformation were identified, including the narrowing, widening, and metaphorization of meanings, as well as instances where native English equivalents are displaced by more prestigious foreign forms.</jats:p>
