Algorithm for forming the lexical competence of future engineers in Business English based on a corpus approach

<jats:p>The aim of the research is to develop an algorithm for forming the lexical competence of future engineers when teaching Business English based on the AntConc corpus manager. The article deals with an algorithm for forming lexical competence that integrates a corpus-based approach with cognitive memorization strategies and productive types of speech activity. For the first time, the proposed algorithm combines several methodological techniques: (1) analysis of authentic professional texts using the AntConc corpus manager; (2) construction of mind maps for key terms and Frayer models for highly specialized concepts; (3) bringing vocabulary into the productive phase through writing a business proposal. It is this combination that constitutes the novelty of the research. The proposed algorithm consists of eight sequential steps grouped into four modules: (1) the preparatory module (preparation of an educational sub-corpus, selection of lexical units, selection of terminology); (2) the research module (study of collocations, construction of mind maps and Frayer models, discussion of results in mini-groups); (3) the training module (performing practice exercises); (4) the productive module (bringing vocabulary into the productive phase, checking and discussing written works).</jats:p>
