Abstract

The research aims to reveal the content and methodological aspects of fostering the “architectonic sense” in students during their piano-focused musical-instrumental training at a pedagogical university (undergraduate level). The category of “architectonic sense” is interpreted as the perception of a musical work’s form during its creation through the process of performance and musical intoning on the piano. The scientific novelty of the study lies in developing a model for fostering the architectonic sense within the context of teacher-training musical-instrumental education, as well as in creating diagnostic tools to determine the level of this sense achieved by future music educators during piano intoning. The architectonic sense is presented as a dialectical unity of several components: (a) the understanding and interpretation of musical form during the process of piano intoning (musical shaping) and a holistic grasp of musical form as an architectural construct; and (b) training in the art of artistic piano intoning and the development of performance skills. The study concludes that during musical-instrumental training, students grasp the architectonic sense as a form-giving ability not only theoretically but also practically, through the emotional experience and the “living through” of their own piano performance-intoning.
