Freedom and responsibility in the philosophical concept of metamodernism: an essay in interpreting contemporary poetry (as exemplified by the lyric poetry of Alexander Krasovitsky)

<jats:p>The article is devoted to a philosophical reflection on the dilemma of freedom and responsibility within the sociocultural concept of metamodernism. The purpose of the study is to identify the specific features of the interrelationship between freedom and responsibility as fundamental aspects of human existence in the metamodernist worldview, based on the poetic works of Alexander Krasovitsky. The scientific novelty of the study lies in revealing the specifics of their correlation within the metamodernist paradigm, where freedom is understood as a continuous self-determination of the individual in situations of uncertainty, while responsibility is viewed as an internal continuation of free choice that connects the subject’s autonomy with the recognition of the value of the Other. Based on Alexander Krasovitsky’s poetry, artistic means of expressing this correlation are identified through the motifs of choice, vulnerability, love, trust, and the search for meaning. As a result of the study, it was established that in metamodernism, freedom is understood as an ongoing process of shaping and redefining one’s own position, whereas responsibility expresses the individual’s readiness to accept the consequences of the choice made. It is shown that love in the metamodernist worldview can be regarded as a form of realizing responsibility, uniting human autonomy with the recognition of the value of the Other. An analysis of Alexander Krasovitsky’s poetry demonstrates that a contemporary literary text serves as a realm for philosophical reflection on subjectivity, inner freedom, and moral choice, representing characteristic features of the metamodernist perception of the world.</jats:p>
