Abstract
<jats:p>Organic chemistry courses often suffer from high attrition and may benefit from instructional approaches beyond passive recall. Retrosynthetic analysis, a core skill for organic chemists, requires iterative practice and flexible reasoning rather than rote memorization, making it well-suited to a game-based format. Inspired by the popular game Wordle, we developed Synthordle, a free, browser-based game that challenges players to design multi-step syntheses through color-coded feedback on their guesses. Supporting both synthetic and retrosynthetic modes across multiple difficulty levels, Synthordle is open-source, requires no installation, and can be adapted to a range of courses. Recently adopted in a graduate-level synthesis course at Scripps Research, Synthordle offers an accessible, game-based complement to traditional problem sets for building retrosynthetic reasoning skills.</jats:p>
