Abstract

This study is devoted to the development of a multifactorial econometric model for forecasting the market value of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel on the horizon until 2026 in the context of structural changes in global commodity markets and increasing geopolitical turbulence. The paper identifies and systematizes twelve key drivers of value, grouped into categories of external (market conditions for nickel, copper and palladium, geopolitical pressure, macroeconomic background) and internal (operational efficiency, investment program, financial and dividend policy, ESG transformation, corporate governance). The methodological framework combines qualitative expert analysis of the relationships between drivers with quantitative modeling, including the construction of the fundamental cost equation (FVE), free cash flow decomposition (FCF) and probabilistic scenario modeling using the Monte Carlo method. Central attention is paid to the analysis of the fundamental contradiction between the need to finance a record investment program (CAPEX ~ 240 billion rubles) and investors' expectations for the resumption of dividend payments. The study reveals the company's characteristic "regulated adaptive growth" regime, in which uniquely low operating costs and the complexity of the ore base act as a natural hedge against external shocks, but do not cancel out the emerging "sanctions discount" in valuation. Based on the model, three promising development trajectories (basic, positive, negative) with quantitative ranges of capitalization from -30% to +50% have been identified and the consensus forecast of the target share price in the range of 135-234 rubles has been estimated. The key conclusion of the work is the thesis that the cost of Norilsk Nickel is not a set value, but a function of the effectiveness of the transformation of forced investments in import substitution and ecology into a long-term competitive advantage, which, in conditions of permanent uncertainty, creates high risks for portfolio investments, despite the remaining fundamental potential.
