Family and Marital Attitudes among University Students and Their Views on Government Support Measures for Young Families

<jats:p>This article examines how university students assess the importance of the institution of the family, as well as their readiness to marry and start a family. Young people (especially university students) are in a transitional stage of life, entering adulthood and encountering various everyday challenges. However, their views change as they progress through university and mature; therefore, the article provides a comparison of the views of first-year and senior students. This article is based on the results of an online questionnaire survey conducted among students of Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov. The results of the study show that university students generally recognize the value of the family as a social institution, but have a pragmatic approach to marriage and childbearing. Their decisions depend not only on material well-being but also on the overall level of stability and security in the country. Young people are better informed about the ma-ternity capital program than about more specialized government support measures for young families. Gov-ernment promotion of family values is less persuasive to young people than information about specific support measures.</jats:p>
