Abstract
The article examines the role of the academic discipline “History of our region” in terms of its socio-philosophical and practical necessity. Based on the works of a number of well-known foreign and domestic theorists and thinkers, the importance of cultural education of the individual as a condition for social cohesion is shown. With the help of Nikolai Berdyaev’s concept of the essence of the “historical”, Zygmunt Bauman’s the-ses on the crisis of modern society, as well as the provisions on “I” and “We” from the works of Semyon Frank and Jan Assman, the practical conditionality of the teacher’s activity in the context of the discipline “History of our region” as a factor contributing to the formation of an individual cultural and historical memory. Additionally, using specific examples from the teaching manual for teaching the above discipline in the Sverdlovsk region, the continuity of the regions through the past to the present and how this affects the perception of schoolchil-dren is revealed. The paper substantiates that the teacher acts not only as a translator of knowledge, but also as a key mediator of cultural memory, ensuring the transfer of socio-cultural experience through the mechanisms of symbolic interaction.
