Abstract
The study is dedicated to issues in automating data collection processes in large open areas, such as coal quarries, where standard Internet of Things solutions cannot be applied due to the unavailability of an uninterrupted power supply, stable connectivity, and expensive equipment. The proposed solution will help increase personnel safety in the coal industry by eliminating the need for manual measurements in hazardous areas (ledges, machinery pass-through locations, potential rock-collapse locations). It can also be adapted to other industries where large-scale implementation of the Internet of Things is required, but a stable connection between devices and an uninterrupted power supply cannot be guaranteed. An example of using the new approach has been considered, when sensors of the Internet of Things are not purchased but assembled from scratch, whereas the devices are considered spare parts requiring maintenance. Recommendations for the placement of devices and their grouping to ensure more stable system operation are provided. A description of all calculation formulas required for work with various microcontrollers and thermistors has been presented, along with analysis and recommendations for using a filter to reduce noise and interference.
