The Role of Remittances in Household Resilience to Extreme Weather in the Kyrgyz Republic: Evidence from Panel Data

<jats:p>This study examines how remittances influence household expenditure patterns under drought and excess rainfall in the Kyrgyz Republic, using household panel data from 2019–2023. Evidence suggests that remittances may help sustain household expenditure during extreme weather events, with the strongest protective effects observed among rural and high-altitude communities—most reliant on climate-sensitive livelihoods. The poorest households show limited ability to use remittances to adjust their spending in periods of extreme weather.</jats:p>
