Abstract
Introduction. This publication presents the results of a textual comparison of two well-known works: the “Mani-kambum” and the Sutra of the Wise and the Fool (or Zanlundo). The “Mani-kambum” is a collection of texts attributed to the Tibetan king Srontsang-gampo (7th century) dedicated to the cult of the Bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteshvara. When analyzing the composition and content of the first section of the “Mani-kambum”, which includes 36 narratives on various subjects, associations inevitably arose with similar plots and characters found in the Tibetan Zanlundo (or Sutra of the Wise and the Fool). Materials. For comparison, the texts of the first cycle of 36 narratives of the “Mani-kambum” were taken from the Oirat manuscript stored in the library of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at St. Petersburg State University (code Calm D 22), and the Oirat text of “The Sea of Parables” translated by Tugmyud-gavdzhi. Results. This paper presents the transliteration and Russian translation of several chapters from the first part of the “Mani-kambum”, including references to chapters of “The Sea of Parables” that contain similar plots.
