Abstract
The article deals with the fate of the authors of the Latvian song "Zilais lakatiņš". The music to the words by V. Mora was written in 1942 by the legionnaire of the SS Legion's music department, V. Sams (in the tango style), and later by the interpreter of the police battalion, E. Rosenstrauch (waltz), who later became a prisoner of Salaspils. After the war, Sams became a well-known musical figure and pedagogue. Rozenstrauchs’s song, written for his fiancee, became the favorite among the legionnaires. Because of this fact, according to a denunciation, he was arrested and spent two years in Siberia. Although he was fully rehabilitated and his songs were popular among the people, his creativity was officially banned until Perestroika. So, the fate of the composers was influenced by both the changing political and ideological situation in Soviet Latvia and the human factor.
