Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> <p> Objective This study aimed to identify latent profiles of humanistic practice ability among clinical nurses in China and to examine their associated determinants through a cross-sectional survey, thereby generating evidence to inform nursing administrators in designing targeted and personalized intervention strategies. Methods This multicenter cross-sectional study recruited 652 clinical nurses using convenience sampling between January and February 2026. Participants completed the following questionnaires: a general demographic questionnaire, the Assessment Tool of Humanistic Practice Ability (ATHPA), the Nursing Practice Environment Scale (NPES), and the Nurses' Workplace Adaptability Scale (NWAS). Latent profile analysis was conducted to identify subgroups of humanistic practice ability. Differences in sociodemographic characteristics, NPES scores, and NWAS scores across profiles were examined using analysis of variance and chi-square tests. Multinomial logistic regression was applied to determine factors associated with profile membership. Results A total of 616 nurses completed all surveys. Latent profile analysis identified three distinct profiles: a “generally low-level group,” a “moderately adaptive group,” and a “humanistic excellence group.” Multinomial logistic regression showed that degree of education, years of work experience, professional title, practice environment, and workplace adaptation were significant predictors of profile membership ( <italic>P</italic> < 0.05). Conclusion Humanistic practice ability among clinical nurses can be categorized into three latent profiles. Sociodemographic characteristics, NPES scores, and NWAS scores can help predict profile membership. These findings provide a basis for nursing administrators to design tailored and precision-based interventions that effectively enhance nurses’ humanistic practice ability and improve patient satisfaction. </p>
