Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>Following the changes in the conditions of water resources and the challenges of water shortage, water resources management is considered more important. Accordingly, the use of the traditional water balance approach that focuses on the balance of water input and output in a system has been replaced with newer methods such as water accounting. Providing a more comprehensive and accurate picture of water flows and uses, water accounting enables more efficient management of water resources. Doing water accounting manually can be associated with many challenges. One of the challenges is the need for computer knowledge to download satellite images. Additionally, the large amount of calculations needed for water accounting usually leads to calculation errors, affecting negatively the validity of the results. Model calibration is also a time-consuming process that requires a lot of concentration and precision. Moreover, analyzing satellite images for water accounting purposes through common software such as ArcGIS can be very difficult and time-consuming. Although these software are powerful, they are not developed specifically for water accounting. Therefore, it is necessary to provide dedicated software that facilitates the water accounting process. The present paper introduces the water accounting plus software called Aquametrics Plus. This software has been provided to improve the capabilities of users who face the mentioned challenges when using the WA+ framework. To investigate the performance and accuracy of the software, a case study has been conducted on the Zayandehrood basin. In this research, the results indicated that the use of software increased the speed of calculations, saved time, reduced calculation errors, and increased the precision of calibration and calculations.</p>
