Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>The design of functional metal complexes through Schiff base chemistry represents a cornerstone of modern coordination chemistry. This review examines the synthesis, characterization, and potential applications of metal complexes derived from the condensation product of disalicylaldehyde derivatives and picolinohydrazide. The unique bis-hydrazone Schiff base ligand architecture, featuring an ONO donor set, offers versatile coordination modes and promising applications in catalysis, sensing, and biological systems. Recent advances in the synthesis of N',N"-(1E,1'E)-(Methylenebis(6-hydroxy-3,1-phenylene))bis(methaneylylidene)di(picolinohydrazide) and its metal complexes are critically evaluated, with emphasis on structure-property relationships that govern functional behavior. This review synthesizes findings from 35 original research reports to provide a comprehensive overview of the design, synthesis, characterization, and applications of these coordination compounds.</p>
