Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>Construction and demolition waste (CDW) has become an increasing environmental concern in both developed and developing countries. In Myanmar, rapid urbanization, population growth, and expanding infrastructure projects have significantly increased CDW generation, while recycling practices remain limited despite the existence of environmental policies. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of thirteen construction waste recycling (CWR) strategies within the Myanmar context. These strategies were adapted from international studies and assessed through a structured online questionnaire completed by 87 construction industry professionals. Each strategy was evaluated based on three usability dimensions: cost, effectiveness, and ease of implementation. Data were analyzed using reliability testing, mean score ranking, normalization, Kruskal–Wallis and Dunn’s tests, overlap analysis, and usability index calculation. The results identified three strategies—organizing temporary bins in construction zones (S06), identifying activities that generate recyclable materials (S07), and enhancing company waste-related policies (S12)—as the most practical and effective. These strategies were perceived as affordable, easy to implement, and suitable under current local conditions. Overall, the findings provide evidence-based insights to support policymakers, industry practitioners, and researchers in improving construction waste management and promoting sustainable recycling practices in Myanmar.</p>
