Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for healthcare workers is often relegated to the background, overshadowed by patient-focused research. Prioritising the well-being of healthcare workers is crucial, as enhancing their health directly improves their capacity to provide quality healthcare services and enhance patient care. Objective This study aims to identify and explore the evidence-related determinants of health-related quality of life among healthcare workers between 2015 and 2025. Methods This scoping review employed thematic analysis, following the PRISMA-ScR checklist to effectively map evidence, summarise existing literature, and identify research gaps concerning the health-related quality of life of healthcare workers from 2015 to 2025. From a total of 445 articles retrieved from PubMed and Google Scholar, 32 articles met the eligibility criteria for inclusion in this review. Results This study identified five key themes related to healthcare workers' health-related quality of life: physical determinants, psychological determinants, individual determinants, social determinants, and environmental determinants. These determinants encompass both protective and risk factors influencing HRQoL. A significant portion of the articles reviewed originated from the World Health Organization's Western Pacific Region (34%), Eastern Mediterranean Region (22%), and European Region (19%). Conclusion Policymakers, health facility managers, and implementers need to focus on strengthening the protective factors outlined in this scoping review while striving to eliminate or reduce the risk factors adversely affecting healthcare workers' health-related quality of life. By addressing these determinants, we can significantly enhance healthcare workers' well-being, ultimately leading to improved patient care and better health outcomes.
