Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>Background Dietary requirement estimates are widely used to support nutritional assessments and nutrition-related policies. Although international organizations have established mineral requirement estimates, Saudi-specific estimates have not yet been developed. This study aimed to estimate the dietary requirements for selected minerals in the Saudi population using a harmonized computational framework. Methods A computational framework based on a factorial approach was used to estimate the dietary requirements for selected minerals. Internationally recognized physiological models and derivation methods were integrated with Saudi-specific anthropometric characteristics and energy requirement estimates to generate age-, sex-, and physiological condition-specific estimates for calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iodine, potassium, selenium, and zinc. Results Estimated dietary requirements were determined for all evaluated minerals across age groups, sexes, and physiological conditions. Overall, the estimates were broadly comparable to international recommendations, with minor differences reflecting the Saudi-specific anthropometric characteristics and energy requirement estimates incorporated into the computational framework. Conclusions Saudi-specific estimated dietary requirements for selected minerals were derived using a harmonized computational framework. These estimates may provide a useful basis for nutritional assessments and future nutrition-related policies.</p>
