Abstract

Abstract

Background Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal lung condition strongly linked to the basement membrane (BM). Long-stranded noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) have been associated with biological processes and disease regulation. The significance of BM-related lncRNAs in IPF prognosis is unclear. This study investigated the relationship between BM-related lncRNAs and the prognosis treatment of IPF. Methods We retrieved the IPF dataset from the GEO database for bioinformatics analysis. Pearson's test was used to assess the association between lncRNAs and BM-related mRNAs. Utilizing the R software for statistical analysis. Results After the co-expression of 155 BM-related mRNAs and 235 BM-related lncRNAs, the IPF dataset was screened for 174 BM-related lncRNAs. Five lncRNAs were identified as IPF prognostic indicators by univariate Cox, Lasso, and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Then, these prognostic lncRNAs were used to construct a risk score for predicting overall survival, and their predictive reliability in IPF prediction was verified. We developed a highly dependable nomogram to assist the practical use of the risk score. We also discovered a substantial association between the risk score and immune cell infiltration, immunological checkpoint, and immunosuppression in IPF. Conclusions This study implies that a model for characterizing five BM-related lncRNAs could shed light on IPF prognostic biomarkers, and immunotherapy
