Abstract

Abstract

Background: Physical inactivity is associated with excess weight and adverse health outcomes. According to evidence, Arab populations engage in low levels of physical activity. We endeavour to assess current physical activity, sleep quality, diet, and stress levels in the Arab world. Method: A total of 4367 adults, 49% males and 51% females (Age: 29.4 ± 12.1 years, Mass: 67.5 ± 14.1 kg, Height: 165.8 ± 14 cm) took part in this study. The study population were divided into 4 age groups, 18–29, 30–44, 45–55 and older than 55. Online self-reporting questionnaires were used to assess the level of activity, stress level, diet, and quality of sleep of the participants. Results: There was a significant difference in the level of physical activity (p = 0.00), perceived stress (p = 0.002) and eating habit (p = 0.002) among the age groups. Females had significantly higher BMI, high score STC, low sleep Quality, and a high level of inactivity compared to males. On the other hand, males are more stressed than females (p = 0.02). Conclusion: These findings highlight the need for strategies to increase physical activity and decrease sedentary behaviour in Arab adults in order to create a good and healthy lifestyle.
