Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p> <italic>Candida maltosa</italic> yeast forms specific structural components of cell wall, so-called canals, as well as extracellular vesicles and polysaccharides when consuming hexadecane as a sole carbon source. According to cytochemical data, these extracellular polysaccharides are associated with oxidative enzymes. We obtained a fraction of extracellular polysaccharides and proteins by ultrasonication of the biomass while preserving cell integrity. C-type cytochrome, peroxidase, and acid phosphatase were found in the extracellular fraction of hexadecane grown cells after the cell removal. Cytochrome was not detected by spectral analysis, and the peroxidase activity was significantly lower in a similar extracellular preparation from biomass grown on glucose. We hypothesize that extracellular cytochrome and peroxidase are involved in the oxidation of hexadecane. </p>
