Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> <p>Botanic gardens play a vital role in ex situ conservation, research, education, tourism, and environmental services, yet the standing of Indonesian botanic garden research within the global research landscape has never been explicitly mapped. This study charts and compares the development of botanic garden research in Indonesia and worldwide through a bibliometric analysis of Scopus data (1861–2025), contrasting the all-time period with the most recent decade. Data were analyzed using Bibliometrix/Biblioshiny and VOSviewer, complemented by Python-based analysis and a keyword-based classification of five institutional functions of botanic gardens. The results show that Indonesia's share of global botanic garden publications rose sharply from 0.67% (pre-2016) to 7.00% (2016–2025), with its country ranking climbing from 11th to 5th among the leading contributing nations. Indonesia's Annual Growth Rate (14.47%) outpaced the global rate (8.60%) over the same period. Notably, however, Indonesia's international collaboration share declined (25.22%→13.51%) precisely during its fastest period of productivity growth, in contrast to the global trend, which increased (20.86%→24.40%). This study offers a first-ever positioning of Indonesian botanic garden research within the global context, providing an empirical foundation for botanic garden managers and national research policymakers.</p>
