Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p> Fall Armyworm has been a significant pest control issue since its invasion of Africa in 2016, resulting in significant declines in maize production. This study examine the larvicidal effectiveness of aqueous seed and leaf extracts of <italic>Azadirachta indica</italic> and <italic>Jatropha curcas</italic> to manage the Fall armyworm. The crude extracts obtained were subjected to phytochemical screening and were prepared at different concentrations of 10%, 7.5% and 5% and applied to third-instar larvae. Mortality of Fall armyworm were recorded at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours after treatment as well as larval duration. The results indicated that, <italic>A. indica</italic> extract recorded the highest concentrations of phenols, flavonoids, tannins, steroids and terpenoids, while <italic>J.. curcas</italic> extract recorded the highest concentrations of alkaloids and saponins. The seed and leaf extracts of <italic>A. indica</italic> , along with the seed extract of <italic>J. curcas</italic> , achieved 100% mortality of Fall armyworm at 96 hours post-treatment. All botanical extracts prolonged the developmental duration of larvae, with the seed extract of <italic>A. indica</italic> recording the highest larval duration of 17.4 days, in comparison to the control, which lasted 12.9 days. All botanical extracts demonstrated significant activity against Fall Armyworm larvae and may provide environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic insecticides. </p>
