Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> <p> Surveillance of wildlife is important to control the potential risk of transmission of parasitic diseases to domestic livestock and humans or vice versa. This surveillance must be supported by reliable and accurate diagnosis and identification of parasitic agents. Several parasitological diagnostic techniques are available, including coprological techniques and necropsy. However, both types of techniques have certain limitations. To improve this diagnosis the use of the <italic>Bubbling and Blot Foam</italic> technique is proposed. The Bubbling and Blot Foam (henceforth BBF) technique is a modification of the Bubbling and Blot method used for sampling microscopic marine meiofauna. The technique allows the analysis of large sample amounts and is based on generating as much turbulence and bubbles as possible to trap minute organisms with an external, hydrophobic cuticle by surface tension. Taking advantage of these properties, a modification of this technique has been used to study the gut contents of three wild ruminants: fallow deer ( <italic>Dama dama</italic> ), red deer ( <italic>Cervus elaphus</italic> ) and roe deer ( <italic>Capreolus capreolus</italic> ). Using the BBF technique, eggs of <italic>Moniezia</italic> spp., <italic>O. venulosum</italic> , <italic>Trichuris ovis</italic> , unidentified roundworms, and larvae of <italic>Muellerius capillaris</italic> and <italic>O. venulosum</italic> were found among the three individuals. These results allow us to evaluate the usefulness of microscopic examination of intestinal contents in parasitological diagnosis and the usefulness of the application of the BBF technique in the extraction and detection of different stages of nematodes and parasitic cestodes from the intestinal contents of ruminants. </p>
