Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>Objective As regenerative dentistry evolves, public interest in innovative therapies expands, leading patients to increasingly rely on online platforms like YouTube for clinical information. However, the lack of peer review online raises concerns regarding data accuracy. This study aimed to evaluate the educational quality, reliability, and content bias of YouTube videos related to dental regeneration. Methods A systematic search was conducted on YouTube using the term “dental regeneration”. After applying strict exclusion criteria, the first 50 eligible videos were analyzed. Video demographics, source types, and targeted scientific topics were recorded. Educational quality was assessed using the Global Quality Scale (GQS), while scientific reliability was analyzed via the modified DISCERN instrument. Interobserver agreement was calculated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results The 50 analyzed videos accumulated 1,247,835 views, with a mean duration of 428 seconds. Dentists/dental specialists (40%) and academic institutions (24%) were the primary upload sources. While stem cell therapy (78%) and bone regeneration (68%) were heavily featured, a significant content bias was observed: 72% of videos emphasized treatment benefits, whereas only 30% addressed limitations and 24% discussed complications. The mean GQS score was 3.28 ± 0.91, showing acceptable educational value, but the mean DISCERN score was lower at 2.46 ± 1.12, indicating moderate-to-low reliability. Scientific references were provided in only 22% of the content. ICC scores demonstrated excellent interobserver agreement (GQS: 0.91, DISCERN: 0.89). Conclusion Although YouTube videos regarding dental regeneration offer acceptable introductory and visual quality, they demonstrate limited scientific reliability and a substantial bias toward positive outcomes. To mitigate the risk of patient misinformation and unrealistic expectations, greater involvement from academic institutions and dental societies is required to deliver balanced, evidence-based digital content.</p>
