Abstract

Abstract

The evolution of mobile networks toward 5G services introduces strict transport requirements, including low latency, high throughput, controlled jitter, and minimal packet loss. This study evaluates the impact of forwarding architectures by comparing destination-based IPv6/MPLS and source-based SRv6 in a controlled eight-node partial-mesh environment, with all variables held constant except the forwarding paradigm. Latency, jitter, throughput, and packet loss were measured under steady-state and burst-load conditions representing Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication traffic (URLLC). The results show that both architectures meet current 5G transport requirements under steady conditions, while burst load results reveal differences in jitter variation and worst-case latency, indicating that the forwarding architecture affects performance consistency in time-sensitive scenarios
