Abstract

Abstract

The present study investigates the competitiveness of the global fresh mango market from 2006 to 2024. HHI scores between 673.75 and 848.18 indicate a high level of competition and market diversification, rather than a monopoly. The CMS analysis reveals that Thailand recorded a positive value of 578,997 tons, while India recorded a negative value of -661,383 tons. In 2024, Peru and Pakistan had scores between 0.86 and 0.95, while India's score decreased sharply from 0.90 in 2006 to 0.35 in 2024. The results of the econometric models for 16 countries show that Agricultural Productivity positively affects overall market competitiveness (β = 0.351; p < 0.001), while Import Unit value Index negatively affects overall market competitiveness (β = -0.353; p < 0.001). A hybrid strategy, however, was effective in boosting competitiveness in Spain even as import prices rose (β = 0.525; p = 0.038), as indicated by country-specific models. The results confirm that quality leadership, value-added products, and market diversification are not only important for achieving economies of scale and bulk production, but also for sustaining a competitive advantage.
