An Examination of the Factors Influencing Newlywed Individuals’ Motivations About Having Children

<title>Abstract</title> <p>This cross-sectional study examines childbearing motivations among childless individuals in Türkiye aged 18 and over who have been married for no more than 5 years, focusing on several psychosocial variables. Data were collected online using snowball sampling and included 204 newly married individuals. Most participants were women (81.4%), and the mean age was 29.90 years. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted. The regression results indicated that the model predicting positive childbearing motivation was significant and explained 7.3% of the variance; within this model, only life satisfaction was a significant predictor. The model predicting negative childbearing motivation was also significant and explained 12.7% of the variance; within this model, only financial well-being was the only significant negative predictor. Overall, the findings suggest that childbearing motivations have a multidimensional structure and are shaped by different psychosocial variables in different ways.</p>
