Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>Background Postsurgical macular oedema (PSMO) is a significant cause of visual impairment following ophthalmic surgeries. Treatment options are often limited by cost or efficacy, making it essential to explore affordable therapeutic solutions. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a low-cost combination of dexamethasone, flurbiprofen, and dorzolamide in treating acute PSMO. Methods This retrospective longitudinal study was conducted over two years, including 193 patients with clinically significant PSMO. Patients received a combination of dexamethasone (1mg/mL), flurbiprofen (0.12mg/0.4ml), and dorzolamide 2% ophthalmic solutions three times daily. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central macular thickness (CMT) were measured at baseline, three months, and six months. Linear regression models were used to evaluate treatment efficacy, with a significance threshold of p &lt; 0.0001. Results The combination therapy led to a significant linear reduction in both CMT and the Logarithm of the Minimum Angle of Resolution (LogMAR). By the three-month follow-up, improvements in BCVA and reductions in CMT were observed, with further improvements at six months. These findings were statistically significant (p adjusted: &lt;0.0001), indicating the therapy's effectiveness in managing acute PSMO. Conclusions The combination of dexamethasone, flurbiprofen, and dorzolamide presents a promising, cost-effective therapeutic option for managing acute PSMO. Its efficacy in reducing macular thickness and improving visual acuity suggests that this combination could become an important intervention for PSMO.</p>
